Storyline Ep4: Intertestamental Period

This recording was made back in October, wrapping up out series on the Storyline of Israel. I saw it in the backlog and wanted to make sure it got published before we got into our Mark series. This last episode covers a lot of of the historical and political events that happen between the Old Testament and the New Testament - leading right up to the life of Jesus.

Colossians Week 3: Living and Walking

Paul has repeatedly displayed Christ as the source of our life, now he talks about what it looks like to walk in Christ. We take a look at Paul's descriptions, and explore how church-language can insulate us from the reality of what Paul is saying.

Colossians Week 2: Paul, Instruction, and Parallel

We continue on our series in Colossians. Here, Paul speaks about his own mission and role in the church, and begin a section of instruction for those in Christ. We also explore a fascinating parallel in Ephesians.

Colossians Week 1: Christ Poem

In our first week studying the letter to the Colossians we explore how one poem sets up the gospel and mystery of Christ - and how Proverbs can transform the way we see Jesus.

Storyline Ep 3: Conquest and Return

This week we look at a very short period with a very big impact: Israel's exile to Babylon and their return to rebuild. We also take a mintue to re-visit the topic of Israel's neighbors and take a look at the rise and fall of the Assyrian, Babylonian, and Persian Empires. 

Storyline Ep 2: Kingdoms

We zoom through Samuel and Kings and see the beginnings (and endings) of the Kingdom of Israel, as well as the rise and fall of Solomon's Temple. Not the most cheerful story, but Kings ends with a spark of hope pointing forward.

Storyline Ep 1: Beginnings

This is the first episode in a new series on the Storyline of Israel. I cover the beginning of the Promise, the Name, the Family, and the Nation. All in under an hour!

Ruth Episdoe 4: The Conversation

It's easy to think of the Bible as a single story, but it's also a series of different books with different authors at different times. Sometimes, these authors wrestle back-and-forth with a particular topic. If you know where to look, you can see how the books are talking to each other, almost like a conversation.

We take a look at how the Book of Ruth plays an important role in the Biblical conversation about intermarriage. 

Ruth Episode 3: Redeemer

Redeemer, kinsman-redeemer, closest kinsman... what does this word mean? We take a look at the customs and rules at the heart of this story. Along the way, we discover that the Book of Ruth has something profound to say about Hebrew Law.

Ruth Episode 2: Khesed

Khesed is a really important word - it appears twice in God's name. Understanding this complex word is difficult, but the Book of Ruth can be read as one giant exploration of what khesed means.
